Failure: Bearded eagle chick dies before hatching

Live from dpa news channel

Nuremberg (dpa/lb) – Bearded eagle breeding failed: At the Nuremberg Zoo, two boys died from a pair of endangered griffins, the city of Nuremberg announced Thursday. Chicks died before they hatched from the eggs.

The pair of bearded vultures at the Nuremberg Zoo is part of a European-wide breeding program involving more than 40 zoos and breeding stations.

Instead of the expected offspring, two more young birds will come to Nuremberg and get used to each other there. In June, they should be released into the wild in Berchtesgaden National Park.
