In memory of Frederick Mayroker | the sun | 05 06 2022 | 8:15

Love is a “labour of love” for Frederic Mayroker and a “cheerful futility”. Although officially groundbreaking, some of these poems with their dark images of nature also capture strands of romance. However, it is not about solving boundaries or merging, it is about thinking about ‘we’ and dealing with ‘you’. The resulting closeness is based on evidence, but never becomes intimate. The poems written after the death of his comrade Ernst Jandel in 2000 draw their strength from poetic resistance to loss. Ten love poems from four decades of the poet who died a year ago (June 4) can be heard.
