LG Art Lab: NFT platform for smart TVs launched

Digital art is reaching more and more people. So-called non-fungible tokens (NFTs) make it possible to buy and sell pixel-based works from paintings and collages to 3D worlds, objects, and game characters. For you to be able to enjoy it in all its glory, large and high definition TVs are ideal. So what could be more straightforward than integrating business with NFTs directly into the system of modern smart TVs? Samsung has already announced similar plans, and now rival LG is widely following suit.
According to the official press release, owners of the right LG TV will now find the so-called LG Art Lab on the splash screens of their devices. This is an application for viewing, buying and selling NTFs. Unlike Samsung, LG does not cooperate with an existing online marketplace for this. Instead, the company has built an internal trading platform based on the Hedera crypto network. The latter makes it particularly easy to trade digital artworks using QR codes. Transactions are made via a network-owned wallet called Wallypto.

LG TV as Picture Frame

Once you have purchased an NFT, you can offer it for sale through the LG Art Lab Marketplace. Alternatively, you can display your collected works in the best quality on your TV screen, which should evolve into a first-class digital photo frame. According to LG, you can achieve a particularly good visual result with the manufacturer’s OLED models, as they allow the best contrast and perfect color reproduction.

For now, LG Art Lab use is limited to the United States. It is not known if and when it will be expanded to other regions. One thing is for sure: the app only works on TVs running WebOS 5.0 or later. As The Verge reports after the first test, LG Art Labs has nothing to offer at the moment, and the app remains blank. LG intends to make the first NFTs available from September 22, 2022. Digital sculptor Barry X Ball will begin work, with more NFTs on a monthly basis.
