There were special service representatives for children, youth and families in Salzgitter

The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) has been funding low-threshold offers through the federal program “Kita-Einstieg: Building Bridges in Early Education” since 2017, which prepares and supports access to day care and the removal of barriers. Successful curricula and structures at Kita-Einstieg must also be maintained beyond the program period. On this occasion, the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs invited all coordinating forces and networks, municipal decision-makers from the participating municipalities as well as representatives of the state and associations to Berlin for a complementary conference.

In addition to supporting children, playgroups also serve as a place for information and advice. Of the 269 families sponsored as of 2020, 136 families reported having a Syrian immigrant background. In most cases, these families came to Germany as part of the air traffic from 2015 onwards. Playgroups with a total capacity of 117 places are currently preparing for the arrival of Ukrainian refugee children. It is planned to expand the number of playgroups by up to five more groups depending on the immigration status.

Federal Family Minister Lisa Bowes praised the work on the federal program: “It is important to me that all children have a good start. This includes good day care. At the conference, coordination offices and networks reported on the successes of the “Kita-Einstieg”, presented and discussed consolidation strategies with decision makers at the federal, state and local levels. Success in Salzgitter

The first successes have already been achieved in Salzgitter. In many cases, children needing support in nursery school starter playgroups were identified early on by educational supervision and parents were assisted in dealing with the increased demands of their children. By the end of 2022, the federal program will have reached approximately 550 children in Salzgitter on a permanent basis.
